Above all else we require our volunteers to be positive, polite, and professional. VFM volunteers represent the market and should always conduct themselves in a respectful and professional manner.
If you are 16 or younger and wish to volunteer with the Vancouver Farmers Market, you are required to be accompanied by an adult.
We prefer volunteers who are able to commit to a consistent schedule, ideally on a semi-regular or weekly basis. This helps foster consistency and build stronger connections between volunteers, staff, vendors, and customers.
Since volunteers sometimes work with vulnerable populations at the market, such as children and senior citizens, volunteers are required to complete a Background Check Form before approval.
Volunteering at the Vancouver Farmers Market is a rewarding experience. We aim to create a meaningful program that supports the market, its small businesses, and the community. As a volunteer, you'll have the chance to connect with local farmers, artisans, and community members. Your skills and creativity will help drive the continued growth of our organization.
We occasionally have group volunteer opportunities and are happy to speak with you about accommodating a larger group for one-time, annual, or quarterly volunteer opportunities. We also partner with local farms that are always looking for volunteers and can help find a project that fits your group's needs.
You may be able to complete court mandated community service hours with the Vancouver Farmers Market. However, VFM does not accept court mandated volunteers whose charges relate to an act of violence or sexual misconduct.
The Vancouver Farmer Market is committed to building a healthy community by supporting a thriving small business economy, providing programs and resources to ensure all in our community can access food and nutrition education, and creating amazing public spaces. We operate a year-round market in downtown Vancouver and seasonal markets in East Vancouver and downtown. The Vancouver Farmers Market Board of Directors, and its committees, play an integral role in our continued success by applying their skills and experiences to ensure a strong and healthy organization that will continue to serve our community of shoppers and small businesses for years to come. We typically bring on 1-3 board members per year and also have opportunities for non-voting committee members in the areas of finance and fundraising. You can submit your interest throughout the year by using this form. Responses will be reviewed as openings become available.
